|
|
Last month I received an e-mail from Sgt. Pete Gill who is currently stationed in Khandahar, Afghanistan. He asked for some gaming supplies to help establish a wargaming club for NATO service members in Khandahar. We immediately shipped him everything we print and e-mailed him all our PDF products as well.
Several miniatures companies, including Chieftain, S&S, Chiltern, and TAG responded with generous donations.
Now it seems the boys are lacking in scenery, so Ambush Alley Games is taking donations to purchase them province worth of scenery.
If you are interested in donating cash for the purchase of scenery and other gaming supplies for use by NATO gamers in Khandahar, please make a PayPal donation to:
ambushalleydonations@gmail.com
If you're a manufacturer of 28mm modern figures, vehicles, or scenery and would like to donate product to Sgt. Gill's club, please contact me at ambushalley@gmail.com for his shipping information.
Take care,
Shawn. _________________ Shawn Carpenter

I cant contribute scenery (or cash at the mo... Im broke!) but I will be painting up a squad of SAS to send to the boys!
I also have a strange urge to see my troops in action in the 'Stan!
If any figure company wants something painted for the boys, let me know! _________________ www.guildwargamers.com

PM me if you want Pete's shipping address. I'm not comfortable giving it out on an open forum like this. _________________ Shawn Carpenter

Piers
thats an awsome idea shawn could award individual figures for whatever Shawn does in that dark locked office where he thinks up stuf .
send extra figures which would be used in the stan then brought back and these combat veteren figues could be given out at shows and for speacial prizes the lads in the unit could then sighn a card authenticating the figure with the unit using it or we could even auction them off to buy more stuff for the kids ... Id bid on a para figure with a para card or a scots or irish unit....even vehicles......Painted by Piers used by soldiers in a combat zone auctioned by shawn and presented by shawn (ok stuffed in a box wraped in newspaper )...a piece of history .....Mikey _________________ "All Men for the rights of Every man, every man for the rights of all Men" |

I have contacted a number of companies to see if we can get some bits together.
I would dearly love to get a complete Ambush Alley set of figures painted up, but this may be a bit ambitious!
We shall see how it goes... But if it helps makes a single soldiers time in Afghanistan even slightly easier to put up with... I think its worth it. _________________ www.guildwargamers.com

Why do I suddenly imagine how a British LT is showing his soldiers how they are going to engage the enemy, using miniatures of Taliban and British troops painted up by Piers, on a gaming table that looks like a copy of the landscape right accross the hesco barriers of the FOB they are in?!?!?
Outstanding! |

I'd love to help in this regard. If you need an extra brush, let me know. I'm not a winning painter, but tabletop is doable fairly easy for me. _________________ Accepting Commission work!

They are using 28mm.
If you have stuff you want to ship them, just let me know and I'll PM you the shipping address - or you can PM Pete Gill - he's on the forum now, too. _________________ Shawn Carpenter

Our gamming group in Talil is nearly all army engineers, I could probably have a modular board put together for them. Perhaps with internal trays for holding minis or terrain bits. It would be unfinished and need a mat cover of some sort, but it's do-able. 28mm, that would be what... 4x6? Larger? Not sure how shipping from APO to APO goes, but I'll ask tomorrow. _________________ ++++++++++++++++++++++

Some funds sent.
I hope that they can post some pix (of their games...unless there's no security issues with "real" stuff).
May the all come home safe and sound.

Update!
We received enough 28mm terrain from Miniature Building Authority to send an entire village worth of buildings, walls, fountains, bazaar stalls, etc. to Pete & Company in the Stan!
Miniature Building Authority was EXTAORDINARILY generous in their support of this project - All told, the guys are getting about $1k in terrain, all pre-painted, all finely made, all good to go! If you've thought about spending some money with these guys, please do! Their heart is definitely in the right place!
The buildings will ship tomorrow - just to give you an idea of the package size, we'll be spending about $250 just on postage!
We couldn't have done this without your generous support - so thanks again to everyone who donated either money or material to this effort!
You guys are the best! _________________ Shawn Carpenter
